What is the BioDevices VIP?

We are a multi-disciplinary team of students at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering that aims to pioneer the fabrication of low-cost, highly adaptable, 3D-printed biomedical devices for patients suffering with hemiplegia, or weakness of one side of the body. The team of engineering design students work under the supervision of a faculty member and occupational therapists (OTs) and clinicians from NYU Langone Hospital’s Rusk Rehabilitation Center to design custom devices, accounting for the specific needs of each patient. Since the project’s inception, we have created devices for six cerebral palsy patients, who have all shown positive improvement in the performance of bi-manual tasks.

How do I join?

We are a team within the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program at NYU Tandon, which provides students with course credit for being involved in project-based learning. We are accepting Sophomores and Juniors of all majors that are willing to dedicate at least 3 semesters to the project. CAD experience is welcome, but we accept people of all skill levels as long as they have a passion for learning since we will be teaching our own CAD software.
